Robotic optical measuring workplace ATOS ScanBox Serie8
In September 2017, the ATOS ScanBox Series 8 device was put into operation. It is the first device of this series in Škoda Auto a.s. also in the Czech Republic.
The ATOS ScanBox Serie8 is an optical measuring system that captures the 3D shape of measured objects. Compared to touch systems, the measured data is displayed in more detail and more comprehensively.
It is based on two kinematic eight-axis robotic systems that control optical scanning heads and allow measuring objects of sizes up to 6 x 2.5 x 3 m. Both systems scan either the same part at the same time, then automatically connect the measured data, or measure individually independent objects. In a combination of two devices working in duplex mode, the measurement speed is more than twice as fast as systems working with a single scanning head.
Controlling the system is reminiscent of CAD applications. In the same environment, the technician prepares the measurement scenario, the inspection project, processes the data and creates the output report. At the same time, the system takes into account the presence of supports and openings in the object and constantly checks whether robots or scanning heads collide with the object or supports.
The robotic workplace is mainly used for analyzes and quality control of large parts, e.g. pressing tools, polystyrene models, foundry castings and visible mouldings. By scanning individual components, the technician can virtually create entire assemblies and test them – for joints and overlaps of adjacent body parts, etc. Digitized castings represent the exact shape of the starting material in the machining process.
The new optical measuring device will ensure fast and high-quality inspection of tools and thus facilitate the start of new projects.
