Sheet metal forming simulation – data for tool optimization
Numerical simulations speed up and, above all, improve the quality of production processes. Based on the input parameters, they give the user the ability to precisely monitor, analyze and optimize the tool even before or during design. In the case of forming, it is possible to monitor and analyze e.g. the course of stress and deformation, compaction of the material, sheet thinning, curvature connection of the geometry, material springback and many others. Nowadays, the results of numerical simulations of forming correspond to 80-90% of real results from practice.
In the case of unsatisfactory results, the input parameters can be changed, thus adjusting the pressing process at the pre-production stage without physical intervention in the tools. Numerical simulation designs are always adjusted based on the analysis of the previous iteration – so it is a process of several optimization loops each time.
Parameters are most often modified in a new design
- brake bars
- holding force
- tool geometry
By changing the parameters, it is possible to locally influence the drawing of the sheet into the tool or its deformation shutdown, thus influencing the final pressing process.
